Choose the rooms that need a reset
Autumn is a useful point to review a cleaning routine as school, work and indoor entertaining pick up again. You do not need to deep clean every room at once. Walk through the home and separate everyday jobs from areas with visible build-up. Choose one detailed task per room, then decide whether to spread the work across several visits or request a one-off clean.
Entrance and hallway
Start where shoes, coats and bags arrive. Clear the floor before vacuuming, clean mats according to their care labels and wipe accessible shelving with a suitable product. Check the edges of the hallway and stair corners where dust collects. Let washed flooring dry before replacing mats. A place for outdoor shoes and a washable entrance mat can make routine maintenance easier between visits.
Living areas and bedrooms
Work from higher accessible surfaces down to floors so dust is not dropped onto freshly cleaned areas. Use the care instructions for lampshades, blinds and soft furnishings. Move small items before dusting shelves, but leave heavy furniture and awkward access tasks for a separately agreed plan. Sort bedside clutter, vacuum accessible floor edges and wash bedding on the cycle recommended by its label.
Kitchen priorities
Clear worktops and focus on visible grease, cupboard fronts and the space around small appliances. Unplug appliances before cleaning their exterior and follow manufacturer instructions. Check food storage, remove unwanted items and plan fridge cleaning when it can be emptied safely. Oven interiors and other detailed appliance work need a specific scope; do not assume they are part of a routine kitchen clean.
Bathrooms and guest spaces
Clean accessible fittings with products suited to their finish, then rinse or dry as directed by the label. Do not mix cleaning products. Replace or wash bathroom textiles according to their care instructions. If guests are coming, prioritise the bathroom they will use, clean bedding, bedside surfaces and a clear place for their belongings. Persistent damp or recurring mould needs its underlying cause assessed; extra routine cleaning alone may not solve it.
Turn the checklist into a realistic booking
List the rooms, the areas with heavier build-up and any extras you want discussed. For a smaller reset, prioritise the entrance, kitchen and main bathroom first. For a wider deep clean, share the property condition and access details before agreeing a duration. Keep the recurring routine focused on the areas used most often, and rotate less urgent details through later visits.
