How to plan a one-off clean before guests arrive

Prioritise guest bathrooms, shared rooms and bedrooms, agree cleaning extras and leave time for final preparations before visitors arrive.

Start with the spaces your guests will use

Preparing for visitors does not mean every cupboard needs attention. List the areas guests will actually use: the entrance, a shared living space, the bathroom and, for overnight stays, a bedroom. Add the kitchen if you will be cooking or entertaining there. This list gives a one-off clean a clear purpose and helps you explain your priorities when requesting a booking.

Choose routine upkeep or a deeper reset

A one-off visit describes how often you book, not automatically how intensive the work will be. A maintained home may need its usual surfaces, bathroom and floors refreshed. Visible build-up or neglected detail may require a deeper clean and more time. Describe the condition honestly before agreeing the scope. Do not assume an ordinary one-off booking includes oven interiors, carpet extraction, high-level work or moving heavy furniture.

Leave room in the schedule for finishing touches

Request your preferred appointment in advance and confirm availability before arranging the rest of the preparation around it. Where possible, leave time between the clean and your guests' arrival for floors to dry, bedding to be arranged and household items to be put back. If you plan to cook after the clean, expect to do a small kitchen reset afterwards. The best timing depends on access, room use and the work being requested.

Prepare the guest bathroom and bedroom

Clear toiletries from the surfaces you want cleaned and identify any fittings that require particular care. Put fresh towels and spare supplies aside so they can be placed after the room is ready. For overnight guests, clear space for a bag and make the bed with clean linen. If you want linen changing included in the booking, ask beforehand and confirm where the replacement bedding will be. Otherwise, keep it on your own preparation list.

Make the entrance and living area easy to use

Move shoes, bags and loose belongings out of walkways. Clear small items from tables so their surfaces are accessible, and point out fragile pieces that should not be moved. Decide whether all living areas need attention or just the room you will use with visitors. That choice can help keep a limited booking focused on the areas that matter most.

Example: preparing for two overnight guests

For an illustrative two-night visit, your priority order might be the guest bathroom, guest bedroom, downstairs floors and shared living space. Your own tasks might be laundry, making the bed and setting out towels. The cleaner's agreed tasks might be accessible surfaces, bathroom fittings and floors. A spare room that nobody will enter could wait. This is a planning example, not a time estimate or a promise about what fits into a particular booking.

Send a brief that is easy to confirm

Include the arrival deadline, rooms to be used, your top three priorities, property condition and any extras you want discussed. Explain access and parking privately through the booking contact. Before the appointment, ask which tasks are included and what should be prioritised if time runs short. After the clean, check the agreed areas and complete your final reset: towels, bedding, dishes and a clear entrance. SDB Clean's booking form lets you describe the requirements for a one-off visit before confirmation.
